  I came across St Matts after a friend recommended it. I had my 2 and a half year old in another Manly preschool and swiftly pulled her out mainly due to lack of play and age appropriate activities, and long nap times with no alternative for non-nappers who ended up bored and playing up. I could not be happier with St Matts. It's a wonderful day care. The staff are all experienced in early child care and education. They are professional, friendly, bubbly and enthusiastic. There are 20 children on any day with 3 staff and a 4th in the office who hits the floor when admin work is done. Could not ask for a better ratio than that. They have space to play out doors with a sand pit, ride in cars, and the play activities are well set up and allow for so much interaction with other children, a lot of play based learning and role play. The toys are on rotation so provide a variation. They have songs and music, dancing and singing, story time, art and craft, and dress up days. The children sit and eat together (byo food) and although go my daughter has initial tears at drop off she now, only a few weeks later, really enjoys the day and is getting used to the routine. She was slow to start talking and her speech has really come along and I know the stimulation at a day care where she is happy was the turning point. They offer permanent places as well as casual occasional care and we have opted for two permanent days plus the odd casual I like it so much. There is a separate room for kids needing a nap. The centre is secure and safe. I like that the teachers teach and spend their time with the kids, they are not updating parents through an iPad app sending pointless messages about learning objectives like fine motor skill development because a child can thread a bead. It's just good old fashioned sensible child care at the best price you could get in Manly. Highly highly highly recommended. My other daughter will go there when she turns two and I like that they will be together. I don't feel the need to look for another preschool down the track. I'm very confident they will get everything they need at St Matts.
