The Castlemaine Childcare Co-operative, also known as “Carinya” which is the name of the building where our long day care centre is located, has a long history of service to the Castlemaine community. We have been operating since 1982 and many of our current parents came to the centre as children themselves.
Our long day care centre caters for 60 children a day, with about 150 families accessing the service over a week. Most of our parents are working or studying, but many families bring children in for socialisation and the chance to learn in a group situation. We also run a Family Day Care service, where children learn and are cared for in a small group situation in a home environment. Some children access both services on different days of the week.
We Care For Kids.
We are a not-for-profit community co-operative situated in the heart of Castlemaine in Central Victoria. We operate a 60-place long day care centre for children between the ages of six weeks and five years of age, including a full kinder program. We also manage Family Day Care, a network of educators who provide programs for preschool and school age children in their own homes.
Castlemaine Childcare Co-operative has been providing accredited, quality child care since our centre was founded by a group of parents in 1982. The co-operative continues to be run by a committee of management made up of parents.
Our care and education service is open from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm and provides quality long day care and education for children ages six weeks to six years.
Our experienced and qualified educators provide programs based on the Early Years Learning Framework including a specialised Kindergarten program taught by a qualified teacher; aimed at preparing children for school and beyond.
In addition to quality care and education the centre provides nappies and nutritious meals as part of the fees.
We believe in our children learning the importance of protecting and respecting the environment. Our outdoor areas boast vegetable patches for the children to grow and maintain a worm farm and water tank. We also try to be very conscious in regards to recycling & energy use- separating all our rubbish & food scraps, turning off lights, appliances, heaters when not required.
